The International Conference on Regional Policy Management in Mercosur and the European Union was held in Brasilia between 3 and 5 December 2008. This action was part of the of the 2009-2011 EU-Brazil Agenda for Cooperation on Regional Policies, launched during the 2008 Open Days event. The conference was attended by over 800 people. Among the speakers were representatives from Brazil, the European Union, Paraguay and Argentina. The event programme included an opening panel, which addressed "Economic Integration and Regional Policies: EU and Mercosur," and 12 panels that focused on the "Role of Economic Blocs in the Management of Regional Policies", the " Regional Policy Management Instruments and Mechanisms" and" Prospects for Regional Policy. " The opening ceremony was attended by Brazilian and foreign authorities representing the Ministries of National Integration (MI), External Relations (MRE), Planning, Budget and Management (MP), the European Union (EU), the Delegation of the European Union in Brazil (DELBRA), the Embassy of France in Brazil, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Bank of Northeastearn Brazil (BNB), the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA) and Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).
