From 8 to 13 September, the Delegation of the European Union to Brazil and the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDHC) carry out a mission taking a Brazilian delegation to Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark.
The agenda includes meetings with representatives of the European Union and forms part of the actions foreseen under the EU-BR Dialogue on LGBTQIA+ Policies. The goal is to promote exchanges of experience between institutions, governments and civil society organisations, and to discuss public policy opportunities and initiatives to advance the rights and quality of life of LGBTQIA+ people.
The mission is organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Brazil, in cooperation with the National Secretariat for the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People (MDHC) and the National Council for the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People.
The Brazilian delegation will be led by Symmy Larrat, National Secretary for the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People, accompanied by Alessandro Mariano, Chief of Staff, and Walmir Siqueira, Secretary for LGBTQIA+ Affairs of the Unified Workers’ Central (CUT), representing the National Council. The group also includes members of the Technical Assistance Team and specialists from the EU-BR Sector Dialogues.
Agenda
The EU-BR Dialogue on LGBTQIA+ Policies mission begins on Monday (8 September) in Brussels, Belgium, where the delegation met with representatives of the European External Action Service (EEAS), including Kajsa Ollongren, EU Special Representative for Human Rights, and Aude Maio-Coliche, EU Ambassador for Equality. Meetings will also be held with members of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the European Parliament’s LGBTI+ and Children’s Rights Intergroups.
Throughout the week, the delegation will also visit The Hague, Amsterdam and Copenhagen, where meetings will be held with representatives of the governments of Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark, as well as civil society organisations working across legal, social and health issues, among others.
The mission is part of a series of activities launched earlier this year on 17 May, during the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Brazil.
The Dialogue also foresees the development of thematic studies and participation in the 4th National Conference on the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People, to be held in October in Brasília.
