Portugal (Braga) and Belgium (Brussels and Leuven) hosted meetings between European and Brazilian experts and technicians with the aim of promoting technical cooperation, focused on capturing practical knowledge to stimulate and promote innovative and technological development in Photonics and Nanotechnology.
The mission was part of the activities supported by the European Union - Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility, and was led by Leandro Antunes Berti, CGTC/MCTIC General Coordinator. “It is essential this ecosystem cooperation between the European Union (EU) and Brazil, with a focus on generating innovative solutions in products, processes and systems, as well as promoting 2 + 2 projects", explains Berti.
The Brazilian delegation was the only team from outside Europe present at the Photonics21 event, which served as the basis for launching a strategy to boost Photonics potential for the next decade in the EU. The team collaborated with experts from the European Community on discussions for Photonics planning and for Europe's industrial future.
"Participating in the Photonics21 event, the world's largest photonics cluster, was a great opportunity for Brazil to enter this area and to improve the development in the latest technologies in the country. This integration of ecosystems between Brazil and Europe is an excellent opportunity for the development of joint projects - like the new Platform Program, called FP9, which will replace the current H2020 - which, in the future, may be extended to Mercosur countries”, says Berti.
Also in Belgium, the mission went through Brussels, where participated in the meeting with the Directorate General of Communication Networks, Content and Technologies (DG CONNECT), responsible for the EU Photonics area, and also made a visit to Leuven at IMEC, one of the largest European Centers of Nanoelectronics and Nanomedicine, with a wide application in the area of health. Already in Braga, Portugal, at the Iberian International Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), which already has a long relationship of cooperation with Brazil - especially the collaborative projects in Nanotechnology, with emphasis on Nanofabrication.
Also participated in this mission Dr. Roberto Panepucci, CTI Researcher Renato Archer; Dr. Fabricio Marchini, Researcher in Public Health at Fiocruz Paraná; Dr. Manuel Steidle, Technology Director of the CERTI Foundation; Ms. Sandra Pacheco Renz, MCTIC S & T Analyst; Dr. Marco Aurélio Krieger, Vice President of Production and Innovation in Health - VPPIS / Fiocruz and Dr. Mário Santos Moreira, Vice President of Institutional Management and Development - VPGDI / Fiocruz.
