The Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), in partnership with the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility, will hold an international workshop named Environmental Impact Assessment of Offshore Wind Farms on 2 and 3 July in Brasilia.
The purpose of the workshop is to receive important inputs from Brazilian and European experts that can help with improving technical aspects of Brazil's Environmental Licencing Programme of Offshore Wind Farms. Representatives from Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Norway and the Energy Research Office (EPE) have confirmed their attendance.
Ibama is in charge of granting Environmental Permits to Offshore Wind Power Plants in Brazil, and it is currently working on 4 requests of this nature.
Since 2017, Ibama has expanded its training programme and increased its production of technical documents intended to better direct environmental licencing procedures.
By incorporating best practices adopted by European countries and world leaders in the sector, the Institute reinforces its commitment to improving assessment and monitoring techniques for tracking offshore wind farms.
