"The Dialogue between the European Union and Brazil is so that, together, we find technical and innovative solutions to the management of watersheds, dam safety, drought contingency plans, sanitation, etc.," said EU Ambassador to Brazil, Ignacio Ybáñez, at the opening of the European Union-Brazil Experience Sharing Seminar: Building Cooperation in Integrated Water Resources Management.
The opening of the event was also attended by ANA CEO Christianne Dias, and directors Oscar Cordeiro Netto and Joaquim Gondim. On the European side, besides Mr. Ybáñez, Dominique Darmendrail, representative of the Water Joint Programming Initiative, was also a panel member.
The purpose of the seminar was to promote the sharing of experience in dam safety, water transfer systems, drought contingency planning, sanitation, the role of water resources management plans and the EU Water Framework Directive. Each topic was addressed in a specific panel as part of the agenda, with the participation of representatives from ANA and experts from the Dialogues.
The event was together held by ANA and the European Union Delegation to Brazil (DELBRA), with support from the Ministries of Regional Development (MDR), Foreign Affairs (MRE) and Economy (ME). The seminar was part of a week of activities to discuss water issues, nature-based solutions and the transition to sustainable cities, topic of other projects being developed within the scope of the Dialogues.
