Smart machines and other applications based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) could generate major economic impacts and profoundly change social dynamics as we know them today. Given the looming potential effects of AI on today's socioeconomic patterns, regulatory bodies and policy makers in countries around the world are faced with a number of challenges.
The purpose of this project is to identify trends and opportunities in the design of public policies vis-à-vis the current and future impacts of applications based on AI technologies – especially in terms of algorithm regulation – and their impacts as regards ensuring the protection of fundamental rights, the correction of potential market failures and anticompetitive practices, as well as the establishment of mechanisms to foster scientific and technological development in that domain.
The idea is to establish dialogue with European countries and institutions through four main actions: hiring European experts to map ongoing actions and trends in Europe and presenting the findings in an event; holding a Brazil-Europe technical mission; helping organise the ICT Week; and publishing a report of findings.
As a result, the dialogue to be established with European countries is expected to identify experiences and trends in public policy-making with a focus on AI technologies and in the regulation of algorithms that could support future perspectives of an agenda for Brazil in this segment.
