This action aims to assess the recent experience in social housing policies in Brazil and the European Union, with special attention to understanding the elements that surround the provision of social housing and assessing the effectiveness and fairness of such policies. To this end, the frameworks will of social housing policy be described and the instruments to subsidise social housing both in Brazil and the EU will be presented. The analysis also involves the quantification of the amounts invested and the effects of these sums on the housing market. After these bilateral studies are conducted, a workshop will be held at the end of the project to present the information collected. This action is expected to provide an overview of aspects relating to subsidies programmes in the European Union and Brazil: social, economic and demographic profiles of the families benefiting from housing subsidies and the number of families benefited as well as the total sums involved in the subsidies. The analysis of social housing policies in Brazil in the European Union is expected to contribute to identifying common elements and experiences to help draw up projections and challenges related to these policies in the years to come.
