The EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility sponsored a successful EU-Brazil bilateral cooperation project in 2012 and 2013 with a focus on conformity assessment of machinery and equipment. Members of the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MTE) learnt about the best practices and difficulties faced in the implementation of the EU’s Machinery Directive regarding the introduction of measures to encourage improvements in the safety and health of workers at work. The goal was to collect input to improve the Brazilian regulatory framework on the subject. In this second stage, Brazil is interested in knowing the European experience in risk assessment tools. Conducted at the design stage of machines and equipment, the assessment of risks enables safer work environments and cheaper machines with greater productive effectiveness. This action will initially include a study to survey the risk assessment tools used in Brazil and the EU, highlighting strengths and weaknesses, and identifying best practices in Europe so as to raise information ahead of the mission to the EU of Brazilian government representatives, employers and workers. Participants will get to know the successful experiences surveyed by the study and will exchange information with European experts. At the end, a seminar will be held in Brazil to discuss the main findings of the action and informative booklet will be published on the subject.
