With the sponsorship of the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility, the European Union and Brazil have maintained successful cooperation in the protection of human rights defenders since 2011. One of the actions from their partnership was the production and publication in Brazil of the book “Dez Faces da Luta pelos Direitos Humanos no Brasil” (Ten Faces of the Struggle for Human Rights in Brazil), which addresses the promotion and protection of human rights through the eyes of its advocates. Through the publication, which portrays the vicissitudes of combating human rights violations in the words of the defenders themselves, an effort was endeavoured to uphold both the importance of the struggle and the causes espoused by human rights defenders and their role in society and the need to ensure that these defenders are protected from threats inherent to their work.
This time, the action provided for the promotion of a seminar during the World Forum on Human Rights, held on December 11, 2013, in which the book Ten Faces of the Struggle for Human Rights in Brazil was launched. The event sought to provide momentum to the promotion and protection of human rights defenders, by encouraging dialogue between European and Brazilian government officials (at the federal and state levels), and representatives of civil society and human rights defenders.
