The purpose of this project is to encourage the exchange of experiences on urban food agendas between Brazilian and European cities and to involve more Brazilian cities in the implementation of urban circular food systems that address food waste mitigation to obtain environmental as well as economic benefits.
It is also expected that this initiative will induce public policies aligned with circular food systems in Brazil inspire Brazilian cities to implement structured urban food policies, and generate data for the design of public policies in line with the UN report on SDG 12.3.
Based on the experience of the Urban Laboratory of Food Public Policies (LUPPA) and the Eurocities Working Group on Food Systems, this action promotes the interaction and exchange of knowledge of five Brazilian cities involved with food policies and the EU counterparts.
Curitiba (Paraná State), Recife (Pernambuco State), Rio Branco (Acre State), Santarém (Pará State) and Maricá (Rio de Janeiro State) are the five Brazilian cities targeted by the multiple case study which are involved in sustainable urban food system initiatives, and already integrated into the network promoted by LUPPA.
The outputs of the project will be presented to a large number of Brazilian cities at a face-to-face event in Rio de Janeiro and will be also available in this publication.
