This action included holding four editions of the Brazil-European Union Meeting on Human Rights Defenders, held in the cities of Belo Horizonte (MG), Salvador (BA), Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Vitória (ES). In roundtable format, the event aimed to promote and stimulate dialogue between federal, state and EU government officials, members of civil society organisations and human rights advocates on the promotion and the advocacy of public policies aimed at safeguarding the human rights of these defenders. The meetings featured the presentation of the book Ten Faces of the Struggle for Human Rights in Brazil, which is part of the Human Rights Programme for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders (PPDDH) maintained by the Human Rights Secretariat of the Presidency (SDH/PR). The book was designed with sponsorship from the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility. The book covers the promotion and protection of human rights through the eyes of its supporters. Through the publication, which portrays the vicissitudes of combating human rights violations in the words of the defenders themselves, an effort was endeavoured to uphold both the importance of the struggle and the causes espoused by human rights defenders and their role in society and the need to ensure that these defenders are protected from threats inherent to their work.
