This project aims at implementing activities to generate critical mass among Brazilian experts on Geographical Indications (GI), based on the exchange of experiences with public policy managers and GI producers from Europe and other selected nationalities, for decision making regarding the relevance of Brazil's accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement.
The scope of this initiative seeks to strengthen the EU-Brazil strategic partnership in intellectual property by exchanging experiences on protection of geographic indications.
One of the results expected is that the Brazilian stakeholders, namely Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA), the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI), the Brazilian Service of Support to Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae), and policymakers responsible for the decision on the accession of Brazil to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement are better informed while enhancing the knowledge of GI policy within the Lisbon System.
In addition, it is foreseen to stimulate and expand the space for public debate on the protection of GIs in Brazil as well as to exchange experiences and lessons learned from the accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement.
