The purpose of this project is a follow-up to the activities carried out in previous projects (7th and 8th Calls) within the scope of the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues, which worked collaboratively on the discussion of main and critical elements in the development of a platform which will allow users from different sectors of society to query and access databases on the impact that climate changes have been causing on the Brazilian territory.
The National Institute for Space Research (INPE) has been leading the development of a System for the Monitoring and Observation of Climate Change Impact (SISMOI), which will be the most important Brazilian experiment in systems for monitoring and observing climate change. As part of the project, the SISMOI Scientific Committee will organize a workshop where experts will research simple and composite indicators for monitoring the impact of climate change. The first prototype of this platform must then be launched, with a focus on the Brazilian semi-arid and three main topics: Water, Food and Energy Security. Subsequently, a technical visit to the Joint Research Centre (JRC) will be arranged to validate the indicators developed, as well as to obtain feedback on the first version of SISMOI.
The main focus of this project is to have Brazil and the EU exchange experience in the development of indicators and systems for monitoring the impacts of climate change. While JRC researchers can draw on the knowledge acquired from the creation of this platform, Brazilian experts can benefit from JRC experience in working with indicators for monitoring climate change impacts.
