This Project aims at supporting the Brazilian National Human Rights Council (NHRC), in the process of defining and implementing its application for membership as the National Human Rights Institution (INDH) that follows the guidelines established by the Paris Principles before the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), receiving information and good experiences from institutional models of European Union countries and as well as the international scenario, to achieve the recognition as such.
The initiative seeks to increase awareness among Brazilian stakeholders and policymakers of other NHRIs in other countries as potential models to be followed and adapted to the Brazilian context, and also to facilitate the decision-making process in the NHRC to adapt its application to be recognised as a Brazilian NHRI, based on the experience of countries in the EU and others in the international arena.
One of the outcomes expected is to encourage best practices and experiences among Brazilian stakeholders to strengthen the preparation of a new Brazilian application for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
