Representatives from Federal Public Administration bodies, institutions, entities, and the Delegation of the European Union to Brazil participated in the workshop to qualify proposals for the 10th Call of the Sector Dialogues, held this Thursday (22nd), in the Ministry of Planning, in Brasília. The workshop goal was to guide and help the participants to prepare the proposals within the thematic areas disclosed for this phase: Competition; Environmental Dimension of Sustainable Development; Climate Change; Small and Medium Enterprises; Cultural Policies; Energy Policy; Industrial and Regulatory Issues; and Financial Services.

Paulo Novais is an associate professor and researcher in the Department of Informatics at ALGORITMI, the Engineering School of the University of Minho. His studies focus on the scientific area of artificial intelligence. In his investigations, he co-authored over 350 scientific articles published in international journals, conferences and books.

The delegation, comprised of representatives from EMBRAPA, WWF and the Ministry of Social Development, accompanied by Rui Ludovino, Counsellor of the Delegation of the European Union to Brazil (DELBRA), plans to launch a quantitative study to measure food waste by Brazilian consumers in July 2018.

Researcher and entrepreneur Robert Wentrup believes that part of the Brazilian population is well aligned with the digital transformation of the country. There are Brazilian startups competing with American and European ones, however, "Many people are still excluded, and this can be explained by economic inequality, which is a major problem in Brazil" commented Wentrup. One way forward, according to him, is to encourage more exchanges and cooperation with countries like the United States of America and the European Union.

Lofred Madzou has a Bachelor's degree in Law and Political Science from University Paris 13 and holds a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Montréal. He was trained as a Data Ethicist at the Oxford Internet Institute, where he did a Master’s Degree in Social Science of the Internet. His expertise focuses on the ethical challenges posed by the development of Data Science (Big Data).

"Brazilians need to be connected to the Internet in order to facilitate equal opportunities for people regardless of where they live."

Marcos Álvarez-Díaz, who represents AIOTI (Alliance for the Internet of Things Innovation), focused on the work by Groups 2 (Innovation Ecosystems) and 6 (Intelligent Cultivation and Food Security), holds a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering, earned in 2010 in the University of Vigo, Spain. He’s been responsible for the EU Office Program at GRADIANT (Galician Research and Development Center in Advanced Telecommunications) since 2010.

On the second day of the ICT Week 2017, the head of the Delegation of the European Union to Brazil (DELBRA), Ambassador João Cravinho, said that the world is undergoing a transformation: "It is the beginning of a new technological revolution with the convergence of robotics, Internet of Things, 5G, 3D printing and other technologies”.
